There was a lot of speculation regarding what the price would be. Unfortunately, it’s not the previously rumored cost of $199. Instead, it’s more comparable to Apple’s iPad. Coming in at $499 for the 32GB version for the basic tablet only model (no keyboard cover). The 32GB model with the attachable keyboard cover will cost you an additional $100 at the official price of $599. And the 64GB model with keyboard comes in at $699....

Update 3/20/2019: On Wednesday, Microsoft also rolled out build 18362 to Insiders in the Fast Ring. It fixes some of the issues that were present in 18361 as well as a few other under-the-hood improvements including the following: We fixed an issue resulting in the Connect app crashing on launch for some Insiders. Windows 11 Preview Build 22000.71 Today’s release has a few new interesting new features like a new entertainment widget. According to the blog post: The entertainment widget allows you to see new and featured movie titles available in the Microsoft Store. Selecting a movie will direct you to the Microsoft Store to see more information about that title. Just open widgets and click or tap on the “Add widgets” button and choose the entertainment widget....

Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4284835 Here’s the list of fixes and improvements included in this latest patch: Provides protections from an additional subclass of speculative execution side channel vulnerability known as Speculative Store Bypass (CVE-2018-3639). These protections aren’t enabled by default. For Windows client (IT pro) guidance, follow the instructions in KB4073119. For Windows Server guidance, follow the instructions in KB4072698. Use this guidance document to enable mitigations for Speculative Store Bypass (CVE-2018-3639) in addition to the mitigations that have already been released for Spectre Variant 2 (CVE-2017-5715) and Meltdown (CVE-2017-5754)....

Windows 10 Redstone 5 Preview Build 17733 Microsoft notes that the dark theme for File Explorer is in the completion stage. “Today’s build marks the turning point where we’ve finished what we set out to do for this release,” writes Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar and Brandon LeBlanc. Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 Yesterday, Gabe Aul announced on Twitter that Windows RT is indeed getting an update, and it will be called Windows 8.1 Update 3. He also said it will be available in September. Microsoft Retiring Internet Explorer 11 Next Year In a blog post today, Microsoft exec Sean Lyndersay notes the following: It’s worth noting that this doesn’t affect Windows 10 customers on the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC). But consumer version will see an end to the support of IE 11. The so-called “IE Mode” supports older ActiveX controls and legacy sites, which some businesses actually use. Microsoft promises to support IE Mode in Edge at least through 2029....

Official NFL App The best place to start is with the official NFL app which is a central hub for essentially everything NFL. The Android and iOS versions provide scores in real-time, player stats, big play videos, up-to-date league news, and more. The app is free but includes in-app purchases including subscriptions to NFL Game Pass or NFL RedZone. The NFL doesn’t just have a contract with Microsoft to use its modified Surface devices by coaches and players on the sideline....

Ok. Apparently there actually ARE Corporations? People? out there still running Windows 2000, because this week Microsoft released a new script to help migrate users and their data from Windows 2000 to Windows 7. It’s called the w2KMigUser script. Wow. Upgrade? Really? How do you expect to run Windows 7 on a 7-to-10-year-old machine? Now granted, perhaps the people Microsoft wrote this ‘upgrade’ for are using new(er) machines which can handle Windows 7....

Windows 10 Redstone 5 Build 17643 The Sets tabbed experience works with Office 365 desktop apps like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Note, that for this to work with this build you will need to be an Office 365 Insider, too. There also appears to be a bug with this that you might experience. When you set up an Outlook.com account, your Microsoft address is the default, but you can change it to something else. This is handy when you have multiple email accounts set up and want to use one account for business, another for personal, one for spam…etc. Set Default Account in Outlook.com Log in to your Outlook.com address and click Settings (gear icon).
